P.E.O. (known as a philanthropic, education organization) is an international women's organization with a mission to raise scholarship funds for women to continue their education. There are over 250 chapters in Washington State alone.
I belong to Chapter IG in Sumner and helped this week with the annual holiday auction and sale. Lots of incredible craft and handmade items were donated to the auction, but one of the most unique donations was a box of supplies for dogs and cats. The box, along with two others for humans, was tagged as a "Win-Win" box. The winning bidder could decide which pet charity would be the recipient.
Since I worked the cash-out table, I was able to tell the winning bidder about Metro Animal Services. http://www.metroanimalservices.org/Want_search_pets.htm. Run by the City of Sumner and serving seven cities in Pierce County, the shelter is a "no kill" shelter finding alternatives for animals that aren't adopted. The winning bidder was more than happy to let me deliver the box to the shelter located at 1200 39th Ave SE in Puyallup. The officer and volunteer who received the box were delighted, commenting on how much the dogs would love the chews.
It's been my privilege every two weeks to photograph the critters so they can be seen on the shelter website. It's been a real joy. The people who work at the shelter, both paid staff (not many of them) and volunteers are caring, dedicated people. Please stop by, if you're interested in adopting or just saying thanks for what they do.
