My daughter, Courtney, invited me to her home last Wednesday - with my camera of course. She had invited friends from Childrens Hospital in Seattle, where she works as a RN on the psychiatric ward. What a challenge for Courtney, Faith, and Samantha working with mentally challenged children, ages five to 17!
And what a surprise for me when I saw how Courtney's husband, Ron, had decorated their house! Ever one to get the good deal, he negotiated for this Santa at a price we could only hope for.
This was the day for Courtney and friends to enjoy their own children, each other, and to do some Christmas cookie baking (and tasting) with the help of Sam's five-year old Wyatt and four-year-old Lilli.
I was greeted at the door by my grandson, Ben, who quickly disappeared under the Christmas tree. Why the guilty look, Ben? Trying to peek into those presents? Yes, I can still see you.
When Faith and Abigail arrived, it was a hoot observing fly-by flirting by 14-month old Ben with 11-month old Abby. He would run past her (she's still crawling), turn around, stare, and then run past her again. (In just a few years, she'll be chasing after him!) But at one point, Abby found delight in trying to touch Ben's lips. He just stood there. What IS she doing? (A little flirting of her own.)
Needless to say, it was a very fun day. I not only got to taste the goodies, but my pay for the day was cookies to take home. Some actually made it. :-)
